My name is Brandon Eckel. My wife, Cassandra, and I are the owner's of Carbide Fitness located in McMinnville. I have always been active and involved in sports. In September of 2002, I decided to pursue a very demanding Infantry career when I made the decision to join the Marine Corp. This intense, fast- paced experience was drastically amplified upon my first set of deployments to Fallujah then Baghdad, Iraq in January of 2004. While deployed, I was attached to small Joint Special Operation group with pushed my training even further. This began my life-changing introduction to high intensity interval training.
I continued with this way of life throughout my entire Marine Corp career which ended in the fall of 2008, when our third child was born. It wasn’t long after returning to civilian life that I began to miss the daily challenge of active duty military, so I decided to join a local Air National Guard unit. This has allowed me to still serve my country but not have to be thousands of miles away from my family. I instantly noticed a lack of effective physical fitness among my fellow Airmen, so I personally took on the task of initiating a functional fitness program that has now grown and is available base wide.
I have utilized my Marine Corp experiences and united them with CrossFit philosophy, methodologies, and programming, culminating in the launching of Carbide CrossFit. My goal is to bring a social connection to working out that will ultimately help people stay motivated and accountable. I believe working out shouldn't be dreaded or done alone zoned out with ear buds in. High-quality workouts should be stress relieving, fun, and geared towards helping people reach their fitness goals. This is where our instruction on how to work out effectively, all the while having fun, will set our facility apart from any other gym. Carbide CrossFit welcomes you to the big kid’s playground!
